How to read these figures
- The police count thefts of bikes, mopeds and scooters together, in the category ‘Diefstal van brom-, snor-, fietsen’. They publish no separate per-municipality figure for bikes alone.
- These are registered offences. A theft nobody reported is not in them, so the real number is higher.
- The rate per 1,000 inhabitants uses the population on 1 January 2025 according to Statistics Netherlands (CBS). A municipality with many commuters, students or visitors scores high as a result: the bikes stolen there do not all belong to residents.
- The change from 2024 is shown only for municipalities with at least 50 thefts in 2024. Going from 3 to 6 is +100%, which tells you nothing.
- Where the police published no figure for a year, there is a dash, not a zero.
- Retrieved from the police open data on 5 October 2026.
